Review
The Feeling 286 Specials have an excellent reputation as boats which offer an impressive balance of accomodation and performance in the category of boats under 30 feet. Accomodation wise, the Feeling 286 Special offers full standing headroom, a good sized head with shower, toilet and holding tank, a fully equipped galley with cooker, fridge and sink and cabin-wise an impressive two double aft cabins as well as a forward V-berth, thereby sleeping 6 in cabins, apart from the very wide open plan saloon which can seat 8 persons. Such a layout is usually only found in boats of over 33/34 feet in size. This boat is also very well designed and appropriate for the hot Mediterranean summers with no less than 6 large opening hatches ensuring that the boat is cool and well ventilated. Performance wise, this boat has a simple to use furling genoa and a slab-reefing mainsail which ensures reliability and performance. Such performance is enhanced by a Sail Area to Displacement ratio of 23.8% which gives this boat a competitive turn of speed, as well as a healthy Ballast/Displacement ratio of 31.6%, and a deep fin keel of 1.7m which together give this boat excellent safe sea-keeping qualities.
This particular boat has been owned and maintained by a family of keen sailing enthusiasts and this is evidenced by the way in which this boat has been maintained and superlatively equipped. For example, engine-wise, this boat has a reliable Lombardinig 20hp engine which was newly installed in 2007 and which has only 529hours on the clock. The size of this engine give the boat a good cruising speed even when punching against waves. Interior-wise, the boat boat has new upholstery. The rigging (both cap shrouds and halyards) are new in 2010. Inventory-wise the boat is very well equipped with top quality gear (eg. new anchor windlass, stainless steel chain, new depthsounder, autpilot, full size bimini, sun canopy, cockpit cushions, etc.)
In summary, this is a well designed, equipped, maintained and loved boat which is available for a negotiable price due to owner's acquisition of a larger boat. An excellent all rounder boat.
